Let’s get tech-y!

Hey everyone! Do you like my new digs? I spent the last few days moving my blog to self-hosting and playing around in the tech to make everything look pretty– just the way I like it!

There’s something supremely satisfying about conquering a new tech challenge. Last Thursday was my birthday and with it came a few fun tech toys: I got bluetooth headphones and a wifi SD card for my camera! Do you ever finally get a piece of tech and wonder why the hell you waited so long to jump on the bandwagon? That’s how I feel about my bluetooth headphones! I wear them around the house listening to my tunes all day and I don’t have to worry about cords pulling them out of my ears when I go to bathroom!

These are the headphones I ordered – AUKEY EP-B13 Bluetooth 4.1 Wireless Stereo Sport Headphones

Here’s the SD card I bought! – Toshiba Flash Air III Wireless SD Memory Card 32GB

The wifi card is totally cool too.  It took me a few hours of getting friendly with my camera’s firmware and manual to get everything working correctly, but I definitely know more about my camera now! And I can access my camera’s pictures wirelessly. IT’S AMAZING!! The only downside is that apparently Nikon cameras, which is the brand I own, have built-in power management features. That means that the SD card only has enough power for the wifi function when the camera is in live view or picture display mode. This is a frustration for me, but not a deal-breaker. Since the Flash Air is still significantly more affordable than its widely-available competition and because this was a birthday gift, I’m VERY happy with my purchase.

Fresh off the high of those two successes, and being in a period of predictable and self-imposed post-bday isolation, I waded into two more of my long-standing tech wishes: (1) making my phone’s SD card act as internal storage, and (2) moving my blog to self-hosted!

A few hours/days/hair-pulling outbursts later and I’d waded through enough forums and code to get things to how you see them now: good enough!!! As much as I hate struggling to learn new tech, I do love that feeling of learning something new. Not to mention how awesome it is when I finally triumph and figure out what the hell I’m doing!

Now that I’ve made the site pretty (I hope! Tell me what you think!!), I can get back to focusing on making the rest of my life just as beautiful. Actually, I picked up a gorgeous Peruvian tablecloth at a community garage sale this weekend… I’ll tell you all about it soon!
